David Hall, co-founder of Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and president and chief operating officer of parent firm Collectors Universe Inc., was released from his employment with both firms effective September 18.
A succinct statement was issued by Collectors Universe announcing the news, which took many in the hobby by surprise:
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Sept. 18, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT), a leading provider of value-added authentication and grading services to dealers and collectors of high-value collectibles, announced the termination of David G. Hall’s employment as the Company’s President and Chief Operating Officer, effective as of the close of business on September 18, 2018.
Joseph J. Orlando, the Company’s Chief Executive Officer, will assume Mr. Hall’s duties.
Hall co-founded PCGS in 1986 and served as president and COO from its inception until 1999. He co-founded Collectors Universe 13 years later in 1999 and served as its president until 2001.
He is also founder and owner of David Hall Rare Coins.
Hall was among COINage‘s Numismatists of the Century in 1999.
