It’s Earth Day 2020! And it’s a most special occasion for this annual holiday, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Earth Day, which kicked off in 1970, helps bring to mind the importance of our planet and aims to encourage people to do more in keeping our beautiful Earth cleaner and healthier.
If you think about it, a lot has changed in what we know about environmental matters since the first Earth Day was held in 1970. Countless laws, regulations, and other ordinances have been passed mandating better fuel mileage for automobiles, offering more protections for our air and water, ensuring larger reserves of virgin land and conservation areas, and many other initiatives protecting Mother Earth.
And there so many ways we can recognize these efforts through our hobby. A number of coins have been issued depicting Earth, honoring environmental awareness, and paying homage to the natural world around us. Why not build a collection of coins carrying these designs and message of environmental preservation? And while you’re at it, don’t forget to recycle, pick up some litter, and plant a tree when you can! It’ll make you feel good and help our planet feel better, too.
