The next installment of the popular American Palladium Eagle series will soon hit the streets with the release of the 2019 American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Reverse Proof Coin. This new reverse proof palladium bullion coin, to be released by the United States Mint at noon eastern on September 12, 2019, will have a mintage of 30,000 pieces and will be subject to an ordering limit of just one per household for the first 24 hours of sale.
These .9995-fine Palladium eagles carry a nominal face value of $25 and carry an obverse design featuring the likeness of Winged Liberty, a design by Adolph A. Weinman first seen on the Mercury dime in 1916. The reverse showcases an eagle and branch in a motif seen on the reverse of Weinman’s 1907 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Gold Medal. The coins will be packaged in a grey presentation case with a certificate of authenticity.
How well these coins perform in the numismatic market is yet to be seen, but if history is any indication then the 2019 reverse proof palladium coins should do very well. The 2017 bullion-quality palladium eagle and 2018 traditional proof palladium eagle both sold out from the US Mint in quick order and are hot sellers in the secondary market to this day. The addition of the 2019 reverse proof option not only gives collectors a third distinct palladium coin to pursue, creating a trio that resembles a true collection, but also provides investors with an attractive alternative to the bullion-quality palladium offering of 2017.
The issue price of the 2019 American Eagle One Ounce Palladium Reverse Proof Coin is still to be determined pursuant to prevailing palladium prices on the day of the coin’s release.
