As Labor Day hits this long weekend, we turn our minds toward autumn and, ultimately, the upcoming holidays. And with the fall Long Beach Expo starting September 5, we kick off the first of a few big shows to headline the last pages of our calendars for 2019. The Long Beach Show opens 10 AM on Thursday, September 5 and will include some 500 coin, currency, stamp, and sports card dealers, making this the largest collectibles show on the West Coast.
Heritage Auctions will headline the show with its impressive array of collectible coins, including the exceedingly rare 1975 no-S proof Roosevelt dime, which realized $349,600 upon its last sale at a Stack’s-Bowers auction in 2011. How much the coin takes this time is anyone’s guess, but it is poised to approach or even surpass the staggering $500,000 mark – a huge sum for a modern base-metal coin.
Other attractions include the display of rare and historic French coins from the $10 million Tyrant Collection, which will become the most comprehensive collection of French coins ever displayed in the United States. The United States Mint will have a sales booth at the show, too. What’s more, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) will have a Meet The Expert session for onsite evaluations and certification. And, for those who love the Oakland Raiders professional football team, there will be an autograph session with Super Bowl XV and Super Bowl XVIII champion Odis McKinney.
